Changes: Ruby Wax

The audio version of this episode is available now - Click here.

This episode comes to you from Ruby Wax’s bedroom. I cycled down to her house on a June Wednesday morning and we talked through her big life changes - from her troubled childhood and creating a comic persona as a result, to becoming a mother and feeling like a freak, to those famous interviews on ‘When Ruby Wax Met’ which changed how she was perceived.

I loved this chat so much. I found Ruby in a mood where she was reading a lot of books about death. She was also feeling a little ill and out of it. We talked about growing older, mindfulness, her depression and the juxtaposition of that with being funny. She kindly agreed to give me the lowdown on all the famous people she interviewed, from Madonna to Donald Trump to Bill Cosby To Bette Midler to as you can hear here, Jim Carrey…

Beyond her TV fame, Ruby is a prolific author with seven Sunday Times bestselling books; her most recent book ‘I’m Not As Well As I Thought I Was’ is SO excellent. She has a degree in mindfulness-based cognitive therapy from Oxford University, and has tirelessly shared her own struggles with mental illness in order to destigmatize it… in short, she’s a true legend! Hope you love this one as much as I did…
